There seems to be an assumption that if a new development is in a rural location surrounded by open countryside then Local Green Space is unimportant/not needed/exists already. The fact is that the fields around a settlement are NOT LGS. They are in private ownership and any incursion will be trespass.
There appears to no initiative in the SWLP to suggest how this problem might be addressed.
So developers build new dwellings, offering the absolute minimum of open space. A few swings and play equipment is provided. No attention is given to the adult need for open green space.

The Councils should not be relying on the few adopted Neighbourhood Plans. It is their duty to allocate Local Green Spaces for protection within their local plans and be proactive in regards to this important designation.

There should be a mechanism for swifter adoption of green spaces. For example in Kenilworth three areas - Bullimore Grove, Rocky Lane, Crewe Lane Arboretum and Cherry Orchard lack formal designation because of lack of clarity about ownership and responsibility, thus opening them up to speculative development.

I agree with the approach laid out but would go further to include that any existing local green space should not be adversely affected by proposed adjacent developments. For example, the proposed development site next to the allotments in Wellesbourne would effectively cut off the allotments from the wider green space which nature relies upon, and would negatively affect the benefits to health and wellbeing that the allotments bring

Protection needs to be robust. Also the Councils should not be relying on the few adopted Neighbourhood Plans. It is their duty to allocate Local Green Spaces for protection within their local plans and be proactive in regards to this important designation. It is essential that high density housing developments which these days have pocket handkerchief gardens have access to green open space, both managed and wild, for wellbeing and mental health. People need calm, quiet space to relax in if they are cooped up like battery hens.

Whilst the broad purpose of the Policy Direction is supported, it is unconsidered unnecessary to carry forward Local Green Spaces already designated in Neighbourhood Plans as these are already established. With regard to any new Local Green Spaces, clear evidence should be provided that these meet the tests set out in NPPF Paragraph 107.

We welcome green spaces identified in NPs continuing to have protection.
However we note that Bishop’s Tachbrook Country Park and the desire, noted in the ‘made’ BTNDP to expand it to provide a buffer zone between Heathcote and BT village does not figure in the maps or descriptions in Section 4 of this draft plan. This is of utmost importance to the Parish Council.

Taylor Wimpey support the approach to the provision of open space within new development. The Vision Document submitted in support of land north of Leamington Spa demonstrates how this can be delivered at the Site.
Taylor Wimpey would welcome the opportunity to review and comments on the future guidance referred to within Draft Policy Direction 43c.

DPD43a emphasises the protection of Local Green Spaces to improve well-being, support biodiversity, and enhance the environment. SG23, with its woodland, ponds, and grassland, already serves these functions, providing a natural area where residents enjoy nature and support their health and mental well-being. The proposed development of SG23 is completely counter to these objectives.

It is important that all areas of green space, recreational facilities or habitat space within existing housing developments are protected by automatic inclusion within the Plan. This should apply whatever its designation or status - even if it has no such designation or status. So long as it was either described as open space or green space in a housing development planning document then it should be protected as such within the new Plan. They should never be used for housing infill or to increase the density of buildings on an estate. They are important to the local residents.
