We must be careful that development does not take away from existing, long use community food growing spaces, either for building on directly, or providing access roads into sites. Allotments in particular may be vulnerable to this, especially private/church owned sites where the income from a housing development far outweighs the monetary income possible from plot rentals.

Country parks, city parks and other green space can provide vital links between one bridleway/byway and the next, helping vulnerable road users including equestrians to avoid using increasingly busy roads. Permissive access at least should be planned and provided for the safety of all. A serious incident with fatality on the road costs the public purse £2.7M per incident (DfT, 2024).

Why the lack of ambition? The Councils should not be relying on the few adopted Neighbourhood Plans. It has a duty to allocate Local Green Spaces for protection within the local plans and to be proactive in regards to this important designation. Let's improve quality of life for everyone!

No. The Councils should not be relying on the few adopted Neighbourhood Plans. It is their duty to allocate Local Green Spaces for protection within their local plans and be proactive in regards to this important designation. There should be a major focus on this as it is common knowledge how fundamentally essential nature is to our mental wellbeing. Stop destroying our planet.

‘Radford Semele Parish Council strongly supports the protection of local open spaces. It
requests that the protection of the setting and amenity of public footpaths is added to these
policies on open space. Public Footpaths are an essential part of the green and blue
infrastructure and fulfil a key leisure and amenity role as linear open spaces available to the
community.’
