Crynodeb o'r Gynrychiolaeth:

Unfortunately these protections do not include very local (small sites) which offer 'staging posts' for organisms, nor locally important routes used as daily methods of locomotion to foraging sited, etc.
E.g. I observed 2 hares trying to use their normal route, but a new fencw had been erected. They kept trying to get through, but were stymied and after about 20 mins both were left crouching, unable to continue on their daily route. We have far fewer hares now, though how far this is due to this single intervention is not determined.

Crynodeb o'r Gynrychiolaeth:

I agree with this policy as it prioritizes and enhances existing biodiversity. The area is already thriving with well-established wildlife corridors and rich habitats, which should be protected and strengthened. Rather than disrupting nature, we should focus on supporting and expanding these ecosystems to ensure long-term sustainability. By safeguarding these natural spaces, we can promote biodiversity, protect wildlife, and maintain ecological balance. This policy takes the right approach by recognizing the value of existing habitats and ensuring they continue to thrive for future generations.

I support this policy as it focuses on protecting and enhancing existing biodiversity. The area already has thriving wildlife corridors and well-established habitats that should be preserved and strengthened. Yes. Given the changing climate it is critically important to do everything in our power to protect our local habitats and wildlife species. It isn't just physical damage from incorrectly sited new build estates, it's also light and noise pollution too that must be considered.

Yes. The mandate to protect, conserve and enhance must be non-negotiable and in no circumstances should offsetting be allowed. The importance of protected sites for natural flood management where appropriate should be highlighted, cross-referenced to draft Policy J in chapter 7 on flood risks. A green / blue map identifying all existing sites, options for new sites and connectivity should form part of the plan. For example, Finham Brook in Kenilworth from upstream of the castle across Kenilworth down to the wetland area to be created under the HS2 bridge over the Brook.

Crynodeb o'r Gynrychiolaeth:

I agree with the draft policy regarding Protection of Sites, Habitats and Species. However, I am concerned at the lack of detail contained within this policy about such an important issue, and believe this should be expanded upon further.

We need to protect important wildlife corridors connected to nature reserves and vital wildlife site areas. This includes protecting them from the damage caused by noise and light pollution, as well as the destruction of ecosystems and habitats as a consequence of developments being built on inappropriate locations.

Yes, however consideration should also be given to protecting important wildlife corridors that connect to local green spaces/ nature reserves. Developing near these could have huge detrimental impacts on protected species as a result of light and noise pollution from developments.

There are important habitat sites including small woodland areas and mature trees in area SG24 which need to be preserved as they have evolved over a long period of time and no new measures could replace them.

The policy does not provide enough detail on how important environmental assets will be protected and enhanced, especially when a large number of the allocations are next to and even covering important Local Wildlife Sites. There should be protection of established wildlife corridors connected to Nature Reserves and vital wildlife sites. Also need to consider the damage to these sensitive sites from noise and light pollution as well as the destruction of ecosystems and habitats as a result of inappropriate development locations.

Can't emphasis how important this is for the community. There is too much destruction of nature reserves and green belts for housing. There will be extra pollution, noise, less trees for wildlife and the reduction of small animals if the development is allowed to proceed next to the Welcombe Hills.

This is again entirely aspirational twaddle. The mass sprawl of development and solar panels will destroy wildlife habitat on a grand scale. The focus on special sites and reserves is a hugely insular way of viewing our superb countryside and ignoring the benfits of agricultural land to both feeding the population and giving mental health relief.

The policy does not provide enough detail on how our county's important environmental assets will be protected and enhanced, especially when a large number of the allocations are next to and even covering important designated Local Wildlife Sites. This contradicts any assertion that policies will protect. Where there is enough money and canny know-how, valuable environmental sites will be compromised if we don't have stricter and clearer controls.

Yes of course such areas should be protected. Unfortunately have seen recently how wild hedgerows have been allowed to be torn down etc at the large bishopton developments. Protection should include consideration of the whole ecosystem - not just the habitat itself - negative impacts of traffic, noise, lack of light etc
