Yes of course such areas should be protected. Unfortunately have seen recently how wild hedgerows have been allowed to be torn down etc at the large bishopton developments. Protection should include consideration of the whole ecosystem - not just the habitat itself - negative impacts of traffic, noise, lack of light etc
