However the aviation function must be properly protected which would entail the preservation of existing runways. The reduction in the number of runways or a reduction in length and width of the runways would severely curtail the number and type of aircraft which could take off and make using the airport dangerous in cross winds etc.
This would damage the aviation function to such an extent that it would quickly become unviable.

Wellesbourne Airfield
I wholeheartedly support the safeguarding of the aviation functions of the former wartime aerodrome of Wellesbourne Mountford in-line with existing Area Policy AS.9 in the adopted Stratford-on-Avon District Core Strategy. The aerodrome must be retained and developed as a General Aviation aerodrome forming an important part of the national infrastructure of aerodromes within the United Kingdom.

Wellesbourne Mountford Aerodrome is essential to maintain a viable network of general aviation airfields available for the training of both private and commercial pilots. The airfield supports a number of local businesses offering employment and flying training providing both professional and recreational training courses. Located in the centre of the UK the airfield is a vital resource in the fulfillment of International requirements for the qualification, issue and maintenance of pilot licences. The development of non aviation activities on the site should not be allowed to develop so that they impinge upon aviation activities.

Given the GDP of South Warwickshire, a local airfield should be considered an essential element of the infrastructure.
UK PLC does aviation very well and our global reach is impressive.
Many senior leaders within UK aviation started their aviation pursuits at Wellesbourne.
Wellesbourne being centrally located offers unique advantages.
Promotion of innovation and design within the aviation industry adjacent to the airfield would be complimentary.
Such development must neither be allowed to compromise the viability of airfield movements nor flight training.
For UK PLC to prosper in a sustainable aviation industry we must retain and enhance airfields such as Wellesbourne.

I strongly support continuation of policy AS.9 in its entirety. If flying is stopped or curtailled at Wellesbourne it will be to the detriment of the people of S Warwickshire. In particular, the development of non-flying activity must not be allowed to adversely affect the ability of Wellesbourne to provide the facilities for aviation currently enjoyed by the people of S Warwickshire.

I believe the airfield should continue in its present form . General Aviation airfields are under threat all over the country. They are at the forefront of aviation careers for many young people. I am a retired Helicopter Engineer and I started my career not at a large airport/company but at a small company at a GA airfield . The large airlines are only now realising that there is going to be a short fall in pilots and are now instigating their own pilot academies The short fall has been taken up by people trained at GA airfields.

Yes, Wellesbourne Airfield is an important site both historically and for the local economy and flying community. It can provide excellent growth for aerospace/aeronautical engineering opportunities and this must be capitalised on. Without airfields like Wellesbourne you do not develop and nurture the airline and military pilots of tomorrow.

Wellesbourne airfield is a significant and irreplaceable asset to Warwickshire which must be preserved and supported. I strongly agree with the council proposal to safeguard the aviation function of the airfield in line with the existing area policy AS.9,, and believe that this will give the airfield the long term security and backing that it needs.

I support the safeguarding of the aviation functions of the former wartime aerodrome of Wellesbourne Mountford in-line with existing Area Policy AS.9 in the adopted Stratford-on-Avon District Core Strategy. The aerodrome must be retained and developed as a fully functioning General Aviation aerodrome forming an important part of the national infrastructure of aerodromes within the United Kingdom and continuing to provide the necessary training and development of future pilots in the UK. In addition, non-aviation related development should not be allowed to constrain the various aviation functions.

Local airfields, the likes of Wellesbourne and Coventry, absolutely need to be kept as operational airfields. They are hugely important for the West Midlands / Cotswolds General Aviation communities, as well as the local communities surrounding Stratford-Upon-Avon. They have been staples in numerous professional pilots journeys to the flight deck, and any potential non-aviation related developments should NOT be allowed, to allow these general aviation functions to be preserved.

I whole-heartedly support of the continuation of economic Policy AS.9 in its entirety.
General aviation provides a very important economic role, including training of pilots for commercial and military aviation.
Repurposing Wellesbourne airfield to include an element of Use Class B2 or Class B8 should only be permitted if does not constrain the aviation activities at Wellesbourne in any way, now or in the future.

As part of the national GA infrastructure and an important local resource and employer, I believe it is vital that Wellesbourne Mountfield aerodrome should continue to be supported by Stratford District Council in accordance with its existing Area Policy AS.9 in the adopted Stratford-on-Avon District Core Strategy. Flying facilities should be retained and enhanced and any new non-aviation Class E(g)/B2/B8 developments should not adversely affect the aerodrome's aviation function.

Any non-avaiation development on the site should certainly be restricted or curtailed so that it does not impact, constrain or interfere with flying or ground operations at the airfield.

Potential transport technology changes could mean that airfield space is at a premium towards the end of the life of the plan. It is therefore suggested that land at Wellesbourne Airfield should be protected from over development which would reduce the current land that is set aside for airfield use.

I do not agree with the proposal for Wellesbourne Airfield to include Class B2 (general industrial) and Use Class B8 (storage and distribution) employment floorspace. This would result in the site being used for general logistics and low tech businesses, and this contradicts the intent to develop strategically the site in conjunction with the agri-tech cluster at the University of Warwick Innovation Campus. I agree with the ancillary Use Class E(g) uses (office/research and development/light industrial).

I support this policy direction, particularly AS.9 regarding Wellesbourne Airfield. I believe this to be a crucial part of Wellesbourne, and the surrounding areas. I agree that Wellesbourne Airfield should be protected from all future developments that risk the future of airfield by constraining its functions. It's a critical piece of infrastructure and only adds to the local economy. With other airfields around the South Warwickshire area being removed/repurposed, this only makes Wellesbourne Airfield even more important to protect.

Whilst in full agreement with safeguarding the airfield aviation facilities in line with policy AS 9, However I believe that the proposed redevelopment of other parts of the site should not enable the destruction of the mature trees in the north west corner, nor should a further access road in the north east corner when there is already access to the industrial estate, this would save further trees and keep heavy goods traffic to the existing access to the A429

Wellesbourne airfield is a thriving aviation centre which should be developed. It is non intrusive, noise is not an issue. It is a valuable local asset with a number of Pilot training businesses and a thriving well supported Cafe.
Proposals for other types of commercial development should be carefully regulated to protect the core activity of aviation.
