Strongly support AS.9. Wellesbourne Airfield is an important part of the community and plays a central role in maintaining a secure General Aviation flying network. Its flying schools and businesses are crucial to providing pilots for the future.

Crynodeb o'r Gynrychiolaeth:

Developing Wellesbourne airfield for other uses but also saying the aviation function will be retained does not seem possible without further evidence and clear demarcation of two allocations (where/what is retained, where/what to be built on). Does the release of Atherstone from employment use inadvertently ‘increase’ pressure and ‘support’ rationales (to accommodate employment, or even increase its aviation use) at Wellesbourne? I’m not sure that is in the right spirit. Initial masterplan layouts and reflection of Neighbourhood Plan decisions about these sites should be included at Reg 19 stage and discussed with parish councils before the draft plan publication.

I agree with the policies re. Coventry airport and Atherstone airfield. Given the high emissions associated with aviation, I do not agree with safeguarding Wellesbourne airfield for aviation, and beyond that, do not see why this should be a safeguarded activity in the first place.

I agree the Wellesbourne Airfield can accommodate some employment development but this should not result in a reduction in the amount of useable runway and other aviation functions. The Wellesbourne Airfield should not be used for housing or retail.

I agree with the councils proposal to safeguard the aviation functions at Wellesbourne Mountford in it's enterity under policy AS.9
This is a major training airfield in South
Warwickshire & we simply cannot afford to lose this infrastructure if we are to retain an aviation training ability in the area & in the country as a whole.
Please do not agree with any redevelopment proposals from greedy property developers.

Thanks
Seán McErlean.

Crynodeb o'r Gynrychiolaeth:

We would seek clarity in respect of the environmental impact of supporting the development of airfields, on both a localised and national scale, with increasing focus on improving air quality and reducing emissions to mitigate future effects of climate change.

We would seek assurance that the development of the site and the long-term change in use, factoring in the aeroplanes using the airport, would have no detrimental impact on local air quality and would not create additional unmitigated greenhouse gas emissions.

Almost all of these sites require private car travel to access.

You must greatly improve active travel infrastructure and public transport infrastructure everywhere to support these.

Paint is not good cycling infrastructure.
Buses are not good public transport infrastructure.

Crynodeb o'r Gynrychiolaeth:

Potential transport technology changes could mean that airfield space is at a premium towards the end of the life of the plan. It is therefore suggested that land at Wellesbourne Airfield should be protected from over development which would reduce the current land that is set aside for airfield use.

I support the Council's proposal to protect aviation services at Wellesbourne, in line with Area Policy AS.9 of the Stratford-on-Avon District Core Strategy. Please consider that reducing the flat ground around the runway would compromise safety, especially since past approvals for nearby buildings have complicated safe operations. My research shows that General Aviation airfields, largely a legacy of World War II, face pressure from development that subsequently occurs elsewhere. I urge the council to prevent building on our last airfield, which provides employment and invaluable training opportunities for future pilots.

Airports / Economy
In relation to airports, we would welcome acknowledgement and text reference to Oxford Airport
(formerly known as Kidlington Airport) which is a primary regional and business aviation airport and
which is the nearby commercial airport which is less than one hour from Warwick District and
Stratford on Avon District. This airport has both aeroplane and helicopter services for passenger,
cargo, tourist and pet travel. It also has a London shuttle service and it provides pilot training
services. This airport assists the local and regional economy including local and regional businesses
and well as providing employment opportunities. Given the proposals at Baginton, the reference to
this nearby facility of Oxford Airport which is located at Kidlington.

Crynodeb o'r Gynrychiolaeth:

The CWCCC welcomes the recognition of these three airfield sites. It supports the continued development and policy recognition of all three airfield sites for different reasons.

It is short sighted to suggest, as this draft proposes, that the facility at Atherstone Airfield be “downgraded” and no longer be an employment allocation. The CWCCC objects to this proposal.

These are three of the remaining airfield facilities in the whole of the Coventry and Warwickshire Sub region. Strategically the retention of facilities to accommodate and
protect local flying facilities and so-called general aviation airfield is important for local business and indeed may become much more important in the future as the nature of mobility is changing and may continue to evolve at a swift rate over the plan period.

The electrification of air transport and flying is beginning to develop alongside the development of motorised vehicle transport. It seems important that some local flying facilities are retained as part of a long-term development strategy.
