Qualified YES - surely some criteria are needed to govern new attractions? - or are all developments to be supported regardless of their type and location. eg. a major theme park at Warwick Castle or Kenilworth Castle?

Qualified - As far as it goes. However the potential for tourism in the green belt has not been addressed. The report seems to consider that all tourist are sedentary. Walking and other health giving activities are becoming most popular and this area, particularly that in the Castle area, could considerably enhance the number of tourists coming here and so boost the economy. Properly marketed even the walk starting at Birches Lane and passing down to Ashow Church and across the river could be a money spinner.

The Council seems to have identified all reasonable options for the tourism potential in the district but there is a clear need to ensure that potential visitors are persuaded that the area is not just a 'day-trip' destination.

With tourism being such an important part of the local economy and yet with significant untapped potential, I am very surprised that the limit of the recommendations within the core strategy document is the proposal to protect tourist accommodation

The Preferred Option neglects the potential of the countryside to contribute to tourism, e.g. through the network of paths and bridleways in Warwick District.

They should encourage the building of a center parcs style site for visitors(mainly families) to use as a base. Current accommodation is fine for non families. If this center was large enough and with other local facilities pushed as days out, Karting, Paintball, Bowling, fishing, etc... I am sure it would be a great success to the district.

In so far as as explained to the Public meeting in Barford on the 5th August, no reason was given as to why all these housing units were required and because there has, it appears, been no infrastructure planning and no jobs created for these new arrivals.

To promote Jephson Gardens, I feel there should be more for younger people. Planning should set out a large area for toddlers up to older youths as an activity area - Take a look at other parks - one example is Bedford. I feel that Jephson Gardens is becoming less a place where people with young families will go. The play area at Mill Gardens is too small and only for the very young.

Object to objectives and content of preferred options:
Underlying theme of strategy is rapid development of employment, retailing, tourism and housing. Sustainability is seen only as a qualification.

Representation Summary:

Kenilworth Town centre is undergoing a renaissance and it is vital for the sustainability of the town that this continues whilst recognising that as a retail centre it will not compete directly with Leamington. Key to its ongoing sustainability is the need to create more employment uses and opportunities in the town to support existing retail/leisure and employment. This will help to stem outward migration for employment. Seekuing a balance will requre additional support infrastructure [healthcare, education, housing and leisure facilities] and upgraded services/highways will also be critical.

One of our town's great assets is Kenilworth Castle. Links between this and the town centre need to be improved and greater cohesive effort by organisations such as Shakespeare Country can help to optimise this as a way to generate more business for the town.
