Village Housing Options and Settlement Boundaries

Respondent: Mrs Jenny Martin

Representation Summary:

-The site is green belt land with a history of flooding and has poor access.
-The boudaries of the site seem to have provoked concern. There is a canal and two streams bounding the site- not ideal and one of the main attractions of Lapworth generating income is the canal network. Neither this, nor the pub, will be enhanced by the development.
-The only possible road access, complete with lighting, would be some 10 yards from a back door.
-We would be trapped in unsaleable houses looking over the stream to a rising bank of developement about 15 yards away.

It seems clear that this is now preferred as a developement site compared to others in the Lapworth/ Rowington area. Nowhere has it been explained why a green belt site with a history of flooding and poor/ dangerous road access has been preferred, without any reports regarding hydrology, ecology etc being obtained. These problems are more pronounced at this location than at other sites abandoned on precisely these grounds!
Nor does any consideration of the features of the boudaries of the site seem to have provoked concern. There are water courses - a canal and two streams bounding the site - not ideal- and one of the main attractions of Lapworth generating income, is the canal network. Neither this, nor the canalside country pub garden with weeping willows, will be enhanced by the building of houses immediately adjacent. The fourth side of the land, the road, floods regularly.
Surely less intrusive arrangements could be made?
I would add, though no- one cares - that some local residents will be severely affected by building on this site. The only possible road access, complete with lighting, would be some 10 yards from a back door. We sacrificial lambs unfortunate enough to live in Yew Tree Close would be trapped in unsaleable houses looking over the stream to a rising bank of developement about 15 yards away. The land owners' actions so far leave us with no confidence that they would act in a manner sympathetic to our concerns. I am sorry to say that the relevant councils actions have caused the same sentiment.
