Alternative Sites Consultation

Representation ID: 43874

Received: 31/03/2010

Respondent: Elaine and Andy Maclean

Representation Summary:

*This is a village location, with a close knit community which should be protected. A large anonymous housing estate would not fit in.

*The green belt land should not be compromised. The development would destroy the popular footpaths and negatively impact the wildlife and the environment.
*This is a high risk area for flooding.
*The roads in this area could not cope with the increased level of traffic this development would create.
*Local schools could not cope with the increased pressure.
*We chose to purchase property here because of the village life and proximity to nature not a large scale housing development.

Questionnaire Response:
We strongly object to the proposed development of Glebe Farm, Cubbington for the following reasons:

*This is a village location, where people know their neighbours and stop to chat to each other on the street. This is a rarity in today's society and is something which we believe should be protected. A large scale anonymous housing estate would not fit in this area and would damage the close knit community which exists.
*The green belt land in this area should not be reduced or compromised. Public footpaths are popular and their use forms part of everyday life for us and many others. This proposed development would destroy the footpaths and have a huge negative impact on the wildlife and the local environment.
*This is a high risk area for flooding, hich would only be worsened by building of this scale.
*The roads in this area could not cope with the increased level of traffic this development would create. A significant number of accidents already occur at the roundabout at the top of Windmill Hill/Rugby Road during peak travel times.
*Local schools could not cope with the increased numbers of children this development would bring to the area.
*Many people have lived in Cubbington all their lives. Others, like us, chose to purchase property here because of the village life and proximity to nature which exists. If we wanted to live on or near to a large scale housing development, we would have chosen to live elsewhere.
