Alternative Sites Consultation

Representation ID: 43873

Received: 31/03/2010

Respondent: Mr and Mrs Fred Holloway

Representation Summary:

We are concerned about the impact on flooding and the local roads. Much work has been done by residents to alleviate flooding, but this was without the need to accommodate more dwellings and the loss of natural land-soak. 'Compton's' crossroads is barely safe now.
The village's unique identity would inevitably be lost. We often enjoy the walks over the land and we would be saddened by the loss of this attractive, safe amenity.
There are a number of derelict buildings nearby which if developed would provide a substantial contribution to the housing requirement and enhance the neglected areas.

As residents of the village, we are concerned about the impact any development would have on the flooding risks and the road arrangements. The flooding caused much hardship and devastation which was unpleasant to witness. Much work has been done by residents to alleviate such problems in the future, but this was without the need to accommodate so many more dwellings and the inevitable loss of natural land-soak. Furthermore, the island at 'Compton's' crossroads would NOT be viable as it is barely safe even now.
We moved here to enjoy the village with its unique identity which would inevitably be lost if we were to be swallowed up by this greedy, thoughtless monster of a housing nightmare. We often enjoy the walks over the land earmarked for this barbaric treatment, and speak for many when we say that we would be saddened by the loss of this attractive, safe amenity.
You only have to drive a short distance to see empty buildings and unused land on the former sites of North Leamington School (Park Road and Binswood Avenue). These derelict buildings are crying out for development which would not only provide a substantial contribution to the housing required, but enhance the parts of the town which are sadly beginning to look neglected.
The proposed development would destroy our village, and we urge you to use the alternative sites.
