Alternative Sites Consultation

Representation ID: 43764

Received: 24/03/2010

Respondent: Mr Ian Hodgskinson

Representation Summary:

We need food growing land not new houses for people who will be unable to find work in the area.

Full text:

The land in question not only provides a physical division between Leamington and the village of Cubbington which would be lost if developed, it is also farm land in use to grow food. I cannot see how a Strategic plan which focusses on priority to re-use 'brownfield' sites can equally support the destruction of prime farmland which is needed to feed an ever growing population.
At present not only are there significant pieces of undeveloped ex-industrial land - Ford Foundry and Ryton Car Plant, but also land not used for farming - County Showground as not needed for Royal Shows.
Development on prime farming land is as ridiculous as building in Jephson Gardens. I am unclear where the need for these houses comes from. Please direct me to the statisical data which shows why the development is needed, and in particular where the employment will be created to enable the house owners to be gainfully employed.
