Encourage local landowners to maintain aspects of the historic environment and encourage restoration of historic sites e.g the new Elizabethan gardens restored at Kenilworth Castle.

The preferred option sounds like a detached aspect. This is the Core Strategy and it should be made clear that the Council will take a view on any of the proposed developments before granting permissions.

Support the first alternative "greater use of Article Four Directions ...more direct use of enforcement powers in restoring or replacing elements of historic buildings, extended Conservation Areas" and greater use of local lists of buildings and gardens. The historic environment contributes to people's sense of social and cultural identity and is vital to tourism in this area. Visitors don't come here for sunshine, the seaside or skiing etc. They come to see our history.
