This policy needs stronger wording as it currently states that the SLA designation will not restrict development. In these areas, which are valuable for wildlife, development must be restricted and directed towards lower value areas where the impact on nature will not be so significant.

The policy needs far clearer and stronger wording. It currently states that the SLA designation will not restrict development in these areas. However these areas are valuable for wildlife and so development must be restricted and directed towards lower value areas, where the impact on nature will not be so significant.

I agree with this policy because areas with special landscapes should be protected from harmful urbanization. These landscapes are valuable for their natural beauty, biodiversity, and cultural significance. Uncontrolled development threatens their character, disrupting ecosystems and diminishing their environmental and recreational benefits. Safeguarding these locations ensures they remain unspoiled for future generations while maintaining ecological balance. Prioritizing protection over urban expansion helps preserve the unique identity of these areas and supports sustainable land management.

Areas including the Clopton Quarter in SG18, that are designated 'Special Landscape Areas', would be detrimentally affected by urbanisation and need to be protected at all costs. This is to save the biodiversity that already exists within these areas across South Warwickshire, including existing wildlife corridors and well established habitats.

Development should not be allowed in the area, and the caveats should be removed (such as that ‘unless there would be an over-riding benefit, for instance to meet an evidenced local housing need’). The Local Plan should be allocating suitable land for housing need.
