More poorly maintained (if maintained at all or maybe the policy continues to be to tell developers to pass the areas to the control of maintenance companies run by spivs) and dangerous/dirty eyesores.

we need to increase the access to play areas within the location, but should not be building new housing developments on existing green belt land

Giving children safe, local play space is important. However it should not be at the expense of making neighbourhood streets safer for them to play there, utilising traffic calming measures, low speed limits and "home zone" signage.

Perimeter paths can create vital refuge for vulnerable road users to avoid increasingly busy roads. Equestrians are used to sharing spaces with different users on bridleways and byways so a park is no different and can be managed safely. Some excellent examples such as Shipley Park and Elvaston Castle confirm this.

Existing play areas should be refurbished with considered and inclusive designs.
Too many existing play areas lack good design and are difficult for children to use. Simple layout designs would improve usability for all.

‘Radford Semele Parish Council supports this policy but suggests a modification to allow an
off- site contribution to an established accessible nearby play area which may sometimes be
more effective than a token play area within the development itself.’

you have only commneted on play provision for children and MUGA - no mention of walking, enhacing the area with green growth, who will maintain it etc. or providing natural shade, safe run off (water) etc

We agree with this policy although have some concerns about the inclusion of MUGA's on larger developments as the upkeep is difficult and without some control of use will rapidly degrade.

There need to be more indoor space for activities this would then support the elderly and those with disabilities to play sport take part in exercise.

The ability for a developer to claim reason to not include MUGA or other play areas should be set as a very high bar. Paying an “off-site sum” merely shifts the obligation onto someone else to find the necessary space when such space is unlikely to be available near to the point of need or at a cost which the off-site sum will cover

Whilst the importance of Urban Parks and Play areas is recognised, Policy Direction 43d is not specific as to when, or the extent to which development will be expected to contribute to these. Not all developments can be expected to provide a MUGA.

There is no indication of what size constitute a 'major development'.
Further to this there is no defined linkage between size of development and size of play area/urban park.
