A New Settlement would be preferable to this edge of town development. In particular SG19 would lead to further congestion in the historic town centre and would be remote from employment and community infrastructure. Development in the northern part of SG19 (ie: north of the Loxley Road) would threaten the separate identities of Tiddington and Alveston.

New Settlements would allow infrastructure to be planned (especially transport infrastructure) and the need for edge of town development (which places strain on existing infrastructure and can cause isolation) would be significantly reduced. It would also allow development to be placed in sustainable locations which do not harm the character of existing settlements.

This would reduce the need for edge of town development in Strategic Growth areas. This site is already partly developed and provides an opportunity for a community with well designed housing and employment supported by the necessary infrastructure including upgrades to transport connections.
