The size and scope of the proposed SG01 site would further alter Kenilworth giving it a sprawl which would virtually link it to Coventry as a mere suburb and lose much of the unique character of the town. Travel to and around the site would be likely to cause further congestion to the town centre. In addition, more than half of this area sits within green belt land for which one of the main purposes is to prevent urban sprawl as well as its value both for its biodiversity and agricultural land.

The scale of development proposed is highly inappropriate for the chosen location. On the very edge of the Warwick District Council boundary, and also on the very edge of Coventry City boundary, it is isolated from local employment opportunities and has limited public transport links. Car use will be essential for anyone living there, and yet the local roads are already struggling to cope with existing traffic. It is highly unlikely that the local schools, GP practices etc would have sufficient spaces to accommodate this number of new residents.

This development will likely require treatment at Coventry - Finham (STW) Wastewater Treatment Works, this Wastewater Treatment Works has medium capacity constraints and very high environmental constraints. Due to the size of the development, it is recommended that network upgrades will be required, alongside hydraulic modelling and engagement with STW. Overall this development site is considered a medium/high risk location, there is some capacity however in order to accommodate growth, infrastructure upgrades will be required and we would need to work closely to understand build timelines, in order to plan accordingly.

South + SE SG01 contains historic landscapes containing early settlement, including a Cisterician monastery at Cryfield, all part of the Saxon Royal Estate of Stonely/Stoneleigh. Iron Age roundhouses were discovered on the University and it's likely more are to be found locally. It's an important rural aspect for south Coventry and the University of Warwick, providing access to proper green space thanks to ancient footpaths which cross the area towards Kenilworth. Accessible countryside is a rarity: there are very few places in larger urban areas where there footpaths into the countryside. This area should have park status.

This site includes Warwick Uni. It is already very developed and suported by both Coventry and Warwick Councils as a development area. Although it is designated Green Belt much of it must be brown or grey land. The University is a large employer and to add development is less destructive to the green belt than seperate sites. The exception is the SW part of the site towards HS2 and beyond where an area of land should be retained as Green Belt for a biodiversity gap between Kenilworth and Coventry.

Mixed green belt and non green land. Within the plan the impact of HS2 in this green belt area needs to be considered. The landscape and character has already been significantly impacted by HS2. HS2 and its boundaries also acts as a manmade barrier to prevent Kenilworth and Coventry merging. This is a large area 4 times the size of the south Kenilworth size with good access to amenities (bus routes already established) in Coventry including a main train line to Birmingham and Coventry.

I am against any new developments in green belt area.
Also concerned about becoming a superb of Coventry.
Kenilworth already has several new estates. Not against new housing but so many are detached houses the cost of which are too expensive for our adult children to buy so they will have to move out of the area if they want to buy. So any new developments in SW need a greater percentage of started homes.
Support any reuse or brownfield sites.

SG01, with SG02 and sites identified in the HELAA Part B call for sites seems to be designed to fill in to HS2 from both sides, connecting Coventry, Kenilworth, Burton Green and Stoneleigh. The Green Belt study is fundamentally flawed as it dismisses HS2 as a factor impacting the Green Belt meaning it and the SWLP itself are unfit for purpose. The Green Belt serves to prevent urban sprawl and the joining up of large built-up areas. SG01 & SG02 do exactly the opposite of this.

This area is on green belt land, we should be protecting this land as once it is gone we can never get it back. This development also means that Coventry and Kenilworth will be more or less connected and there will not be separation between the two areas. Urban sprawl is bad both for the environment and for people, as we do not have the infrastructure to support this massive new area. This area is also home to beautiful nature and cycle paths including a nature reserve, which we should be protecting for future generations.
