Canalside Draft DPD

Representation ID: 71558

Received: 02/12/2019

Respondent: Historic England

Agent: Historic England

Representation Summary:

Historic England has no objection to the Canalside DPD, and welcomes the opportunity it presents for the area. However, we recommend that you should consult with your specialist archaeological advisors at Warwickshire County Council to review the impact of the document on non-designated heritage assets, particularly those areas identified with the potential for development.

We would also suggest that Policy CS3 should be broader as it is addressing NPPF 189 and the requirement for good information on heritage assets as a whole to inform planning decisions. As such, we recommend a rewording to reflect this e.g. ‘an assessment of the significance of heritage assets on the development site, including their archaeological interest should be undertaken….’ and the second sentence could be revised to read ‘Consultation of the HERs information held by…..for this assessment is required as a minimum.’ These revisions would bring the policy in line with wording in the NPPF.
