Pity that we cannot think of reasons why tourists would be important. With hundreds of wealthy people travelling through the area, drawn from London to see the likes of Shakespeare's home, it seems a priority to ensure they keep coming. That means a good town center around this attraction.

Arts support. Wonderful. A must do. Unfortunately we seem to have had at least 15 years of Philistine government policy in th Arts and a drought of support for what is so obviously the lifeblood of the town (applies nationwide). We don't need more coffee shops, we do need supported arts.

Tourism does play a strategic role, in terms of visitors to Stratford Upon Avon and Warwick Castle amongst others - National Trust properties, British Motor Museum, Warwick Arts Centre, Kenilworth Castle - as well as overspill from National Exhibition Centre, Birmingham, Oxford. The provision of hotel accommodation for those visitors, alongside short term self-catering and camping / caravan grounds should also be considered as strategically important. Those developments have impact upon housing availability for residents, amenity, traffic and shared access to local entertainment and leisure.

Tourism may not play a "spatially strategic role" currently, but could become more so in the future as people have more leisure time with the introduction of AI into jobs.
Specifically for Leamington Spa there could be further emphasis to promote it as a desirable tourist destination. The development of a state of the art spa would be a valuable link to the historical expansion of the town.

Yes. Policies are needed to encourage small retailers, both existing and future, in existing town centres to ensure their future livelihood and the future health of town centres.

We note and support the inclusion of arts and culture within the South Warwickshire Local Plan and the recognition of its local, national and international importance. As noted it provides South Warwickshire with an economic asset in terms of the visitor economy. It also can further deliver against other aspects of the plan including a healthy, safe and inclusive South Warwickshire. Please continue to share the proposals with us as the plan develops further in response to the consultation you receive.

Policies are needed to encourage small retailers in existing town centres to ensure their future livelihood.
Recognition is needed that some settlements are having to re-focus their economy on tourism and service as traditional manufacturing has declined.
Whilst further establishment of SME/micro-businesses is vital, a transition to Tourism as a key part of the economy of Shipston on Stour needs to emerge as a matter of urgency. As such, the key contributors to a successful tourism industry must be defined, preserved, supported and attracted. There is therefore disappointment that this has been relegated to Part 2 of the SWLP.

A lot of the economic needs are strongly supported by the infrastructure that is either lacking or has been degraded. Education and health as local employers support the local economy directly and indirectly by making the local economy more productive. A fitter and more skilled population will add more value faster to the local economy.

Alcester Town Council, Arrow with Weethley Parish Council, Kinwarton Parish Council, Wixford Parish Council and Great Alne Parish Council support economic diversification, including investment in infrastructure to facilitate growth. For towns such as Alcester, support is essential for business hubs and flexible workspaces.
Investment is required in tourism in market towns as well as Stratford/Leamington. There are other tourist attractions other than Shakespeare!
Improved visitor facilities, promotion of local heritage and strengthening the local retail offer are important to ensure that High Streets remain vibrant.
Parking facilities in market towns need review to assess whether additional parking is required.

SupremeTech supports the general approach to meeting employment needs. However, please refer to comments to Policy Direction 12 for further detail with specific regards to Land off Princes Drive, Kenilworth, which we contend should be allocated to meet local needs employment growth. Please also refer to our response to Policy Direction 13 on the Core Opportunity Area.
