My wife and I oppose SG24. When we moved to Hockley Heath, proximity to the local primary school and village community feel was a major factor. We have extended family within the village.
The village is prone to flooding - particularly fields on School Road, the Recreation Ground, Cut Throat Lane and the Stratford Road. Most properties are built on clay substrate and this is the nature of the surrounding land. Development would worsen flood risks. There are issues with sewage overflow on Aylesbury Road.
Hockley Heath has no GP surgery and a modest primary school. The main road is congested at peak times due to the A3400 being an arterial route to the M42 and traffic towards Henley-in-Arden. Surrounding roads are small residential streets or single track roads. The Plan doesn't detail any infrastructure improvements.
Hockley Heath is surrounded by green belt land, home to many protected species. These include woodpeckers, water voles, barn owls, bats, hedgehogs and other wildlife. No doubt numbers would decline if the plan was to go ahead.
We recognise Hockley Heath has scope for small residential development, but the proposed SG24 plan within the SWLP is excessive and disproportionate, and would cause large impacts as shown above.
