I strongly object to proposals for 3000 new houses in Shipston-on-Stour.
Local infrastructure is barely adequate for the current population. Unless there is a plan for significant subsidies for local business, people will need to commute to employment hubs. The local roads cannot cope with that the bus services are minimal at best. The Fosse Way is the main access point and already known for hazardous junctions. Fatalities are already too high. The high school has expanded but wouldn’t be able to accommodate the numbers this development would bring. Shipston is a rural community with its own culture and history which could not be upheld with this development. Police and healthcare services have been overloaded in recent decades. The plans do not address this and these issues with services will be worsened by adding more houses.
These plans are contrary to the principles of sustainability in a rural district as they will result in more cars on the roads which the infrastructure cannot cope with, disruption from construction, and environmental damage. These plans are poorly thought out and look to address problems that don’t exist in the area.
