Representation Summary:

The peri-urban parks appear to be :
1. Semi urbanisation of rural areas
2. A substitute for the provision of public open space in urban areas and new housing developments.
3. A way of allowing developers to avoid providing adequate provision for open space on their developments.

The concept is also unrealistic. If the landowners don't want cycle tracks, new woodland etc. on their land, nothing will happen.

The Kenilworth Peri-urban park will be inaccessible to most Kenilworth residents unless they use their cars.

Public open spaces are most needed in the areas where people live.

Respondent: Mr George Riches

Representation Summary:

I support the concept of a Park, North of Kenilworth. With the priviso that no car parking is provided (exception for disabled people).

Paths in the area are currently being improved to allow cycle and pedestrian access from Kenilworth and Coventry, designation of the area as a park would make it easier to extend the network.

The bio-diversity supported by the area's agricultural practices needs to be maintained and increased.

It would provide a pleasant showcase of the sub-region to Warwick University's large population of sojourners and should create wider popular support for resisting attempts to build on the land.

Representation Summary:

The peri-urban park north of Kenilworth needs a greater detail of consideration, including the collaboration of all stakeholder groups. Should this plan go ahead (with potential social benefits), then this should not be to the detriment of the natural capital aspects.

Respondent: Crackley Residents Association

Representation Summary:

The terminology "peri-urban park" needs to be reconsidered. CRA would vociferously oppose the "downgrading" of the vitally important Greenbelt of the Crackley Gap to support a park facility that might adversely affect its characteristic nature. Detailed consideration of ecological, landscape and other amenity implications against social benefits needs to be undertaken. CRA is happy to be involved in the future development of this GI enhancement.
