There is also the need for policies to rebalance the provision of Outdoor Sports and Leisure in areas where housing development has already taken place and as a result no open land is available for such activities. This may require compulsory purchase of land within the provisions of a neighbourhood Plan.

Please note the importance of quiet country lanes for outdoor leisure and exercise. This is a facility used by walkers of all ages and cyclists. Inappropriate development whether business or housing has a real impact on the ability of people to use these options safely.

Water sports participation is buoyant and key to leisure and tourism in the Districts. An outdoor water sport and recreation strategy to complement the playing pitch strategy is needed to accommodate the best use of green and blue spaces to deliver the most benefit to people and wildlife.
Playing fields, recreational grounds and playgrounds are valuable public facilities, usually managed by parish councils and volunteer-led management committees. The social value of outdoor play spaces and built facilities should be formally recognised and better supported across the Districts.

Grassroots sport is increasingly being impacted by waterlogging of fields. My daughter (who plays for Stratford Town Girls Under-15 Football) has had her matches cancelled more often than she has played over the course of this winter (traditionally the heart of the football season). This is an issue which will need addressing, and the Councils need to take a more active, ambitious approach in this policy.
