I agree with epolicy, but as it doesn’t present how new carbon sinks that can offset the conversion of land to housing and industry, I believe more work needs to. Be done to this to present it more fuller….

We need to ensure that the carbon is actually sequestered, and not used for extracting more carbon (as some CCS schemes seem to do).

This needs further work and tightening. There should definitely be no net loss in carbon sequestration: we need to be increasing this substantially. Any developments need to be held to strict, enforced standards on increasing carbon sequestration. Developers need to undertake to oversee this for a substantial period (30 years seems okay) following any new development, and face penalties for non-compliance.

Yes. A balance must be struck between preserving the landscape and natural habitat with self-sufficiency for food production to reduce food fuel miles, solar power generation and providing new homes.

Why do the plans say 'if unavoidable'? Why do the plans not ensure protection of green spaces and important ecological habitats? Insufficient evidence provided by the plans as to protections to be applied. Plans do not go far enough to protect existing environmental assets.

As it is a relatively new and emerging consideration, some of the technicalities are complex. (A worked example would have helped).

Carbon sequestration is important but is not enough. It is also vital and urgent that man-made carbon emissions are reduced rapidly. These can be reduced by having well-insulated homes, reducing our reliance on road travel and greatly decreasing our use of fossil fuels.

SG18 Clopton Quarter is a key site that should be supported in terms of biodiversity, and improving carbon carbon sequestration by planting more native green infrastructure, as well as preserving the grade 3 soil for future food production.
